Peter, Steve, Emily and I went on a little day trip to Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park near Milk River, Alberta.

It is one of the largest areas of protected prairie in the Alberta park system, and serves as both a nature preserve and protection for a large number of aboriginal rock carvings and paintings.

The Information center is like a little museum. It has artifacts, videos, and interactive areas that teach you about the history of the place.

Steve and Emily enjoyed testing out the Buffalo hide carpet.

We spent the day hiking around the hoodoos. A hoodoo is a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland. Hoodoos, which may range from 5–150 ft tall, typically consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements. They generally form within sedimentary rock and volcanic rock formations.

Steve got a tiny rip in his shorts during the hiking/climbing. By the end of the day, the shorts were basically destroyed!

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park also has a camp ground and a beach. The views from the beach and the tops of the hoodoos are pretty amazing!
